SilverPlace Project

Message from Mike Riley

October 18 , 2007

Dear Neighbor:

On October 18, the Planning Board met again in executive session to discuss the SilverPlace Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The board will continue to negotiate with the prospective development team to clarify the expectations and responsibilities of the public and private entities.

The board conducts the review in executive session because it involves contract negotiations.  The MOU does not involve building location, mass, density, or other design decisions.

As soon as the board is ready with the contract basics, it will place the draft MOU the agenda to be discussed publicly – possibly in November.  At that time, residents are welcome to attend and testify.

The Montgomery County Planning Board is dedicated to having an open and transparent planning process for SilverPlace that includes community input. Since the Planning Board regulates development and determines requirements for other projects, we will ensure that SilverPlace will exceed minimum standards and be a model of community compatibility and design excellence.

To that end, the Planning Board plans to host a series of interactive design workshops to gather community input about the project design, location and other important details.  The workshops will allow participants to articulate their visions and contribute their thoughts to the final product.

The project continues to be at a very preliminary stage.  Approving the MOU later this fall will set in motion a series of next steps on SilverPlace. We will continue to keep you apprised of board actions and the dates of relevant public meetings.

Sincerely,

Mike Riley

Acting Deputy Director of Parks
