Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

Using Geographic Information Systems (GIS), our team in the Information Technology & Innovation (ITI) Division maintains a variety of geographic data – from building footprints to environmental features to park boundaries – to help staff at the Planning Department and Department of Parks prepare master plans, assess park needs, review development proposals, and analyze county resources. By maintaining accurate data and developing standardized tools and visual designs, our staff produces detailed geographic data in 2D and 3D.

GIS Data and Maps

data downloads Data Downloads -- A list of subdirectory folders for each WSSC tile number for Montgomery County. GIS, CADD, and PDF files are available. Montgomery County GIS basemap data (property and plan/topo) are available free for download.

 

data downloads Map Library -- An inventory of maps depicting general areas and special interest areas that can be printed via a plotter or a standard office/home printer. PDF and JPEG files are available.

Analytical Mapping Tools and Viewers

Interactive MapsInteractive Maps -- Choose from interactive map viewers designed to make the viewing of specific topical areas streamlined and easy. These maps allow users to zoom in to areas, identify specific features, and in some cases provide feedback.

The GIS Team

The GIS Team maintains geographic data and supports Montgomery Planning and Montgomery Parks with mapping and spatial analysis. The GIS team is part of the Information Technology & Innovation (ITI) Division of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission – Montgomery County.  Coordinating with Montgomery County government agencies, the GIS Team provides a full suite of geographic data and resources such as:

  • property boundaries
  • building footprints
  • road information
  • addresses
  • terrain models
  • environmental features
  • web mapping development and support
