The Planning Department creates great communities by developing master plans, reviewing applications for development and analyzing various types of information to help public officials plan for Montgomery County's future. Each community within Montgomery County has a master plan that creates a comprehensive view of land use trends and future development.
Each community within Montgomery County has a master plan that creates a comprehensive view of land use trends and future development. Plans recommend land uses, zoning, transportation, schools, parks, libraries, and fire and police stations as well as address housing, historic preservation, pedestrian and trail systems and environmental issues.
In 2012, The Planning Department implemented a Minor Master Plan Amendment process to respond to pressing planning issues in a community in short timeframes. Later that year, the Department stopped accepting applications for minor master plan amendments following a change in its 2012-2013 work program, which is set by the County Council The application process will be re-released once the Department’s work schedule has been modified.
