The 10 Most Congested Intersections
Below is map showing the locations of the 10 most congested areas in Montgomery County in 2009.

Here are three key findings from the 2009 Highway Mobility Report regarding some of these locations.
- Connecticut Avenue (MD 185) at Plyers Mill Road (#4) is a new count in the database. The Kensington Sector Plan efforts have driven some of this recent congestion.
- Rockville Pike (MD 355) at Edmonston Drive (#6) has experienced heavy congestion, possibly because of the ongoing construction in the area and because Edmonston Drive serves as a main connection for those that cross between Veirs Mill Road to Wooton Parkway. Drivers may use Edmonston Drive to avoid delays at First Street on Veirs Mill Road.
- Rockville Pike (MD 355) at East-West Highway (MD 410)/Old Georgetown Road (#10) was not on the Top 10 list in 2008 because its Critical Lane Volumes (CLV) didn’t exceed the Local Area Transportation Review (LATR) standard. The CLV at this location is high however, and the intersection would have been ranked among the Top 20 intersections last year if ranked was based solely on the basis of the CLV figure.
