There are numerous resources available to assist you in researching the history of Montgomery County. Listed below are just some of the books that you may find helpful. You may also want to view the websites of the organizations listed in our Links page.

You may wish to visit the library of the Montgomery County Historical Society to further research our historic County. The Jane C. Sween Research Library, located at 42 West Middle Lane in Rockville, is home to 4,400 books, tombstone inscription readings, church and family records, maps, manuscripts, newspaper clippings, census and land records and over 5,000 photographs. The Society’s quarterly publication, Montgomery County Story, includes in-depth articles Montgomery County history and can be purchased at the Society’s museum shop. Public libraries in your own community may also have historic files of interest to you, and the website of the Montgomery County Public Libraries has a searchable catalog online.
